Three decades of work of the Birds of Prey Protection Foundation was celebrated in the most beautiful way. Members and friends of the Foundation visited the last refuges of indigenous populations of the black vulture and the white vulture in the Balkans. These two species have disappeared in Serbia. They visited the reserves in Greece: Dadia Forest and Delta Marice (Evros), and in Bulgaria: Studen Kladenets and Madjarevo. We were greeted by a warm welcome from our hosts, our colleagues, beautiful weather and birds. Our friend Dimitris Vasilakis tried his best to make this meeting unforgettable. In Bulgaria, our colleague Ivaylo Angelov was our lecturer and guide. We enjoyed the flight of the white vulture and the black vulture, of which there were 18 in the sky at one time. While we’re here, we couldn’t resist visiting the mouth of the Marica, which is the place with the greatest variety of birds in Europe, right after the Danube delta.

Marija in the satellite telemetry program for 4 years!
Maria is a female Griffon Vulture that we have been tracking for four years. So far we have collected as many as 25,600 GPS points, with all the data on her movement and behavior such as speed of movement, height, places where she rests, feeds, but also of her overall “Home Range”.
She has been in the monitoring program practically since hatching, when se was marked on the nest at Zlatarsko jezero, June 1, 2017. by the Foundation’s Marking team, with metal and color rings, and for easier identification on the left wing there is also a yellow-blue marker marked “06”.
In January of the following year, she was found by an exhausted Mr. Zoran Rajičić from Čačak, so on January 24, 2018. placed in the Vulture’s Center in Uvac. When she recovered, she was equipped with a satellite transmitter and on September 1, 2018. was released during the celebration of the International Vulture Awareness Day on Uvac.
During these 4 years, Maria did not undertake long wanderings, nor did she leave Serbia, but she did fly over the territory in search of food. She is the first Vulture whose behavior we were able to track with satellite telemetry until
maturity.
