The first shift on the marking of Griffon Vultures in the Uvac completed its work …
From 31.05. to 2.6.2019. The first shift of the Marking Team of the Birds of Prey Protection Foundation has completed work on marking the Griffon Vultures in the Special Nature Reserve “Uvac” and happily returned home! We had great support from “Uvac Reserve”, Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” and, of course, excellent climbers from Speleological Club “Ponir” from Banja Luka and ASAK.
I shift of Marking Team, 2019.

Despite the bad weather conditions, we have worked all the time and managed to climb to 13 nests. Unfortunately, the number of marked Vultures is smaller and what is worrisome is that more “traditional” occupied nests, which Vultures used for years are now abandoned. We have also noted a greater number of previously marked Vultures, which indicates that marking is working well.
Enjoy the scenes of this year marking (I shift)
The second day of marking we were welcomed by the “star” of the Reserve – “Dobrila”

The next weekend is the 2nd shift of the Marking Team. We hope they will have better weather and wish them success in the work!
Dobrila is at home on Uvac…

Jubilee – a quarter century of the Foundation we celebrated in the gorge of the Trešnjica river
11.05.2019. We celebrated a significant jubilee, a quarter of a century of existence and work of the Birds od Prey Protection Foundation, visiting the Special Nature Reserve “Klisura reke Trešnjice”. This is the twenty-seventh traditional excursion in May that was organized by the Foundation in the gorge of a beautiful river, this time exactly on the day the Foundation was founded, in 1994!
Upon arrival at the village Gornje Košlje, Irena Hribšek, director of the Foundation and gave a short lecture about the Reserve and Griffon Vultures, for which this area was primarily protected. Zoran Karić, a member of the Board of the Foundation, introduced the participants about the Foundation’s history, the goals for which it was founded, the activities, the results achieved so far, as well as the plans for further development and work on the protection of leek and birds of prey.
On an exceptionally pleasant day, followed by the flight of our Griffon Vultures from the northernmost European colony – Trešnjica, but also enjoying the beautiful untouched nature of the area, the group slowly walked the entire gorge of the Trešnjica River and descended to the village Gornja Trešnjica. There we were welcomed by locals, with whom we had a good time together with a great lunch.
The representative of the Manager of the Special Reserve “Natura” addressed to the group. We sincerely thank for their support and hope that we will continue to work togather on the welfare of Griffon Vultures and the Trešnjica reserve.
After lunch, another very important ceremony was held. Our guest, PhD Goran Sušić, President of the “Grifon – the Birds of Prey Protection Association” from Croatia and Irena Hribšek, Director of the Birds of Prey Protection Foundation, have formalized several decades of cooperation between these two close organizations and signed the “Long-term Cooperation Agreement”. The goal of this Agreement is to joint efforts about the research and publish data, and exchange experiences in protecting Vultures.
It was a great pleasure to hear some interesting details from the long-standing cooperation in the protection of Griffon Vultures in the Croatia and Serbia, which were told by our dear guest and PhD Saša Marinković. In the end, we would also like to mention our Secretary Vuk Popić who perfectly organized the entire excursion.
Nest “El Greco” Griffon Vulture, with a cub. The bird was marked in the Greece with a wing marker “07”. Late he was recorded in a colony in Trešnjica. Wibg mark dropped off, but we know it is him and he is successfully nesting.

Finding two of our Griffon Vultures in Turkey, August 2018.
We received information from our colleagues from Turkey that on August 18 2018., two Griffon Vultures with wing markers “15” and “47” were recorded in Bolu Dortean. Both vultures are ours, and they were marked by the Team for marking of the Birds of Prey Protection Foundation in SRN “Uvac”. Vulture with wing marker no. “47” was marked in 2016, and the bird with marker no. “15” in 2017.
